A honest supplier should always provide a picture that is true to the merchandise. When luck is just against you, what I saw was a lovely fairy pendant with a cute rounded nose with a pair of lovely wings and this was what I’ve gotten instead:
Can you imagine my frustration after I’ve received the actual pieces? Well, I am definitely not going to pass the frustration down to my customers. The supplier is definitely going to be blacklisted and the entire batch won’t make it for listing, that’s for sure.
Frankly speaking, my heart would bleed to see those pieces lying inside the rejected box whenever I am doing my inventory check and I keep asking myself what should I do with them?
Instead of asking ‘How much damage will the work in question bring about?’
Why not ask ‘How much good? How much joy?’
~ Henry Miller
How much good? How much joy?
Hmm…and thus my journey to finding joy in this damage soon begins….
After making a bunch of bookmarks for our ‘Find Love’ contest, I’ve decided to try making a bookmark using whatever resources I currently have because I really enjoy making bookmarks.
Here’s the outcome:
We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think.
When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves.
If you lovely souls have been following this humble blog of ours, you already know by now that I am a firm believer of “Everything happens for a reason” .
Those long years of bad health which cost me a job that fetched me a comfortable payroll and later a job that gave me many challenges and joy while being with many lovable children.
I wouldn’t be here laughing at my own creation and typing out this post with a joyous mood if not for those long years of bad health. Therefore, I am actually quite thankful for this.
Sometimes our light goes out but is blown into flame by another human being.
Each of us owes deepest thanks to those who have rekindled this light.
~ Albert Schweitzer
What I’ve done in this D.I.Y:
- I applied the entire pendant with a layer of pink nail polish as its base colour
- I added another layer of pink glittering nail polish over the first pink coating
- With the second coating, I managed to make the contour of the nose a little rounder and filling up the gaps in between the joints of the wing and the fairy’s shoulder
- The light and dark green 2 mm rhinestones were used for the wing parts
- Brown nail polish was used as the hair colour so as to differentiate the hair from the face
- A layer of top coat was applied, even over the rhinestones so as to give the body a shinier surface and to further secure the rhinestones
- I wrapped the connecting ring (which is part of the pendant) with a rim of purple wool because I didn’t like the outcome of the ring after the pink coatings
- I made a ‘leash’ (not sure how I should call this part) by tying a few strands of purple wool to a small ring (which was from the original pendant) and then cover the knot with a plastic cap-like component which I’ve ripped off from an unused key chain…LOL..
- Then I used another ring from the key chain as the medium between the bookmark and the purple wool ‘leash’
You must take the first step.
The first steps will take some effort, maybe pain.
But after that, everything that has to be done is real-life movement.

I am thankful to have this companionship and of course, all those sweet encouragement from all you lovely souls out there while I am taking all those different ‘first steps’ in this business venture.
Have a great day ahead, always!
Cheers & TTFN~
Drawing is not my forte despite taking lessons for a few years when I was still a little girl. That is why I really envy my brother, who is able to draw the Simpsons very well, and my baby sis (who is in charge of our comic blog :)).
With my sister now doing a contractual job at a bank while I do the setting up our online shop (I’ve stopped working with those lovable students of mine due to the relapses of my backaches :(), she has very little time to update our comic blog.
Actually, I am a fan of her doodling arts ever since she started drawing all those funny characters inside her notebooks and erhhmm….lecture notes. They never fail to make me laugh.
I wanted to read more of her works, but I guess just my liking isn’t enough :(. HOWEVER..if you’ve visited our comic blog (it is just a click away, sweeties!!) and think they are worth reading, do leave down your likes and comments so that she is motivated to draw more.
This post is falling under the ‘Nail on Paper’ category.
Yes, another new category with all the designs posted under this category drawn on paper. 😀
Without further adieu, here’s the result of my first piece of work,
The top nail (ya…drawn by yours truly) was done with colour pencils and markers. Actual nail polish were applied to the one at the bottom with the fimo slices and rhinestones placed only after the colours are dried so that I can reuse them hehe…
The colours used : Jet Black, Mustard Yellow, Blue & Silver Glitter
Art Decor used: 3 butterfly fimo & Black rhinestones
With this, I can create as many designs as I want to without using any top coat (yes, I’ve yet to buy them…) and best of all, I don’t have to remove them.
I’ve just purchased some acrylic nails and nail polish brushes/dotting tools so that I can try out all my paper designs on the nails.
Oh~ can’t wait for them to arrive. 😀
Hope you do enjoy this humble post of ours.
…unless they come in the form of fimo canes or slices (>_<)!!!!
It is not that I don’t like or hate the real ones, I am just AFRAID to go near them.
How should I describe this mixed feeling…hmm…okay, let’s just put it this way.
A person with low tolerances for spicy food (i.e. yours truly) yet stubbornly wanted to include chilli in the food whenever she is being offered despite knowing she will have a hard time getting the food down her throat.
I really like spicy food but my tongue doesn’t… (>_<)
Now, do you get what I mean? 😦
NOW, LET’S GET BACK TO THE PURPOSE OF TODAY’S POST….
I’ve added a new category today, which is ‘Sharing’, for all the fimo nail designs that I want to share with you all. Therefore, all the nail art designs posted in this category belong to their respective owners/creators.
In order not to infringe any copyrights, I’ve taken the liberty to watermark the pictures so that if you think their designs are interesting, you can always visit their sites for more. This is what sharing is about. 🙂
Now, back to dragonflies. Why did I say I love them when I am so afraid of them?
Isn’t life filled with ironies? The truth is that I was really enjoying myself during the slicing all my dragonflies fimo canes. I like their shape designs and also the vibrant colours. Therefore, when I was going through the websites and spotted this dragonfly nail art, I wanted to share with you all.
I really love the colour of the dragonfly in this nail art, unfortunately I don’t have that in my inventory (*sob*) so will definitely look out for this colour in my next restocking.
I’ve also included 3 similar designs with different colours in the picture for your reference and I do hope you all will enjoy reading posts from this new category.
My first toe nail art…hehe…frankly speaking, I thought it would be easier but IT IS NOT!!!! p(-_-)q
Perhaps it is just me, LOL.
Nevertheless, I’ve only managed to apply my design on the big toe while the rest, I just finished them off with 3 light purple dots on each nail (may not be very visible in the picture) in order to match the purple flower fimo. As a matter of fact, I wanted to use a blue flower fimo but then the contrast between the fimo colour and the background colour will be very low.
Initially, I wanted to name it “Water Splash” but decided to change it to ‘Fallen Flower on Water’ since I thought it looks like fallen flower floating on water (been reading too many blogs on flowers…or am I just trying to console myself? :P)
What do you all see? No harm letting me know eh?
So, here’s the result of another of my unskilled nail art:
The upper picture was taken while my feet were still dry. When I was changing water for my red face turtle (of 23 years), water was running down my feet and when I look at the nails again, they looked kinda…hmmm…different? So I decided to take down another picture for comparsion purpose.
Okay, enough blabbering…here are the colours and materials I used for this design:
- Silver glitter (background), white, baby blue & blue (water) and light purple (dots)
- 1 purple fimo flower
Hope you are enjoy this humble design of yours truly.
Till then, TTFN~
I’ve mentioned earlier that my aunt came for a visit during two weeks ago and I did a simple nail design (well, simple is the only thing I can do so far, lol) and I simply love glitter colours at this stage because the glitter colours are good for covering up the flaws on the uneven french tips (LOL). I know, I needed more practising…hehee…so, here’s the result:
I did alternate designs with a flower fimo + line dots on 3 fingers and only 2 simple rhinestones on 2 fingers so they won’t fall off easily due to all the washing and cooking in the later part of the day. The reason I chose red rhinestones was because her toe nails were already painted in red hehee…
- Colours used: White, red, sliver glitter and pink glitter.
- Fimo used: Orange Flower (6 pcs)
- Rhinestone used: 2mm round red rhinestone (8 pcs)
Gotta get back to more fimo cutting and sorting.
Will upload more designs when they are ready, so do stay tuned for more…
Pinky and the thumb are the two big challenges for me because one is too SMALL and the other is too BIG. Thus, more effort is needed. In order to conquer this obstacle of mine, I’ve decided to practise more.
For my left thumb, I decided to do a collage of fimo slices because there was once I saw a collage design and wanted to do it one day and tada…today is the day. Alas, it is not as easy as I thought it may seem especially the part where I needed to wait for the top coat to dry up before putting more fimo slices on. I was just being too impatient!
For my left pinky, I just did a simple design with a metalic butterfly decor.
Here are the result of today’s practise:
For the collage, I’ve used flowers, fruits, feather, leaf and butterfy fimos plus many layers of top coat (Oh gosh!) as for the pinky, the materials used:
- Nail polish – Midnight blue, white & silver glitter
- Nail decor – Golden metalic butterfly
I will try to redo a collage design in the future as I am not too satisfied with this one, in meantime, I will have to practise cutting up really thin slices.
I hope you all will enjoy this post.
Simple nail art design for very very very (hmm…did I say very?) short nail. Opps, that’s yours truly’s thumb (*blushing*). Since there are no extra tips for me to place many fimos on, I was thinking, what the heck, just work on the colours and tada… here it is…Colours used: Bright Red, Mustard Yellow and Pink Glitters….Fimo used: (1 each )5x5mm Strawberry and Orange design…Rhinestones used: (3 each) 2mm Red and Black
The following is a simple design for longer nails. I’ve used pink glitter nail polish for the background and midnight blue for the tip (then I put another thin layer of glitter over the midnight blue tips). Just a simple blue flower fimo (well we can also use other colour to contrast the blue tip, but in this case, I just wanted the flower to blend in) is used on each nail and 3-5 pcs of 2mm white rhinestones are used to create a 3D boundary between the nail tip and the rest of the nail. As these are my baby sister’s fingers, I am able to do the design on all 10 of her fingers. Hee~
* ~~ * ~ * ~ * ~UPDATED : 22ND MAY 2012~ * ~ * ~ * ~~ * ~ *
Yesterday, I tried to practise putting on nail polish with my left hand, using the top coat and a glittering nail polish. It was quite tough as predicted and it was as if I could hear the dialogues between my both hands:
LEFT HAND (not wanting to reveal her photo): …hmm…not really that pretty…
With the glitter pink polish still on my nail tips, I decided to do another simple design on my left thumb by adding another Mocha Mix polish and 1 dragonfly fimo.
Last but not least, my baby sister wanted me to try on one rainbow design on her nails and I will post it up if it is a successful one.
